It has been said of The Remnant that we take grace "too far."
The sad reality is, many believers in the Church, beyond just the ones who make this claim, have a FEAR of GRACE.
Grace is the unmerited favor given to us by God; we don't deserve God to show us any kind of love or favorable care, yet He gives it freely to us anyways. That's what grace is all about. But the Church can, at times, become afraid of the type of grace God has to offer us. The Church becomes afraid that believers will use grace as some sort of twisted "Get Out of Jail Free" card, so to speak. That we as believers will use grace as an excuse to sin.
Paul writes in Romans 6:1-4...
"What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply. Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life."
Paul knew some may question the idea of people using grace as an excuse to sin. But he also knew that, as believers, we have been born again. We are dead to our old ways of life, and if we have been born again in Christ, our heart's truest desire and contentment will come from obedience to Christ, not disobedience and rebellion.Someone who is truly saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus will WANT to obey, will want to make an effort to follow God and eliminate sin from their life. They won't view grace as a reason to negate effort.
Paul also writes in Romans 3:23-24...
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."
Grace does not eliminate effort when it comes to pursuing Christ-likeness. But it does eliminate the need to earn.
None of us could ever deserve or earn grace or salvation. But to all of us who are saved through the blood of Christ, it is freely given.
"For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift--not from works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
At The Remnant, we take grace "too far" because we believe we are all sinners in desperate need of God's grace. We believe grace is freely given to believers, and we can never earn God's grace. And we believe that all those who are indwelled by the Holy Spirit will have a desire to do what is right and good, even if they stumble at times (see Romans 7).
At The Remnant, we take grace "too far" because we desire to show others the same grace God has shown us.
