The Fruit of Joy

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things." Galatians 5:22-23

The Bible tells us that joy is a fruit of the Spirit. This means that, as believers who are indwelled with the Holy Spirt, we naturally produce joy! Just like an apple tree grows apples, Christians should grow joy!

In the grind of day to day life, however, we can forget this. Naturally producing joy seems almost impossible in the midst of traffic, going to work, cleaning dishes, and changing dirty diapers.

But we have to take God at His Word and believe what He says!

God says we can naturally produce joy, no matter what season of life we are in; so that must be true! But how?

In Psalm 103, the psalmist David writes:

"My soul, bless the Lord,
and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
My soul, bless the Lord,
and do not forget all his benefits.
He forgives all your iniquity;
he heals all your diseases.
He redeems your life from the pit;
he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
He satisfies you with good things;
your youth is renewed like the eagle."
Psalm 103:1-5

David had a good grasp on the concept of joy and how to continually produce it.

When we meditate on God—on who He is and all He has done for us—we can't help but be joyful, even if life's current circumstances are less than ideal or are mundane.

God has saved us from an eternity of suffering and reunited us with Him through Christ! That, dear friends, is more than enough reason to be joyful—to be grateful even—every day!

How will you let your joy shine today?
